Climate change, going green or whatever you call it the reduction of electricity and water is a project almost all strata apartment buildings are considering as electricity costs continue to rise.
Apartment buildings are known for being high consumers of electricity for their footprint, making 100% solar powered building impossible.
So making apartment buildings have a low carbon footprint is extremely hard, but why not change the goal. Instead of making the building a lower energy user, why not making the total consumption of all occupiers in the building smaller.
Image a building where:
– 50% of petrol cars are replaced with electric vehicles reducing the use of fossil fuels
– where rainwater is captured, then used for drip-feeding plants, washing cars & wash the building
– 25% of fruit & veg is sourced locally and delivered together, fewer kilometres travelled, and less packaging
– LED and sensor lights are installed on common property and inside all apartments
– Owners drive less because they live closer to shops & work
– Green wall gardens are on each balcony
This building is now creating a greater green saving than any efficient building by creating a few select services and facilities for owners and occupiers, without impacting their quality of life.
Being responsible for a building is not just about reducing levies, it’s about making the building better, more liveable, a resource centre for occupiers and a place where you live the way you want to live.
